The basic blue house is a new construction home in the suburbs of Richmond, VA. It has 3,478 square feet and has an unfinished 3rd floor. The construction might be basic, but we chose $40,000 of upgrades to turn this basic floor plan into the home that would provide the backdrop for our design.
In 2018, we added interior trim to our front door and applied a faux wainscoting to the entryway. We added trim to our kitchen island and painted it green. We removed our pantry door trim and replaced it with sliding door hardware and added new trim and new taller baseboards in the mudroom. We built our pantry doors. We built a bench for a drop zone. We also repainted the mudroom white and added a new light fixture (one more boob light bites the dust). We then began a massive overhaul of our dining room. We added a beautiful chandelier and a new dining set. We added new base molding, crown, chair rail, picture rail and applied picture frame molding from floor to ceiling. In the entryway we added removable wallpaper. We also took care of fixing a few items leftover from our kitchen tiling checklist like repairing and painting the refrigerator cabinet.
In 2019 we’ve been busy working on our master bedroom. We’re currently installing a wide style board and batten and crown molding. While I’m keeping our dressers, bed and ceiling fan fixture, I’ll be getting some new nightstands, sconces and decor. I’ll be painting the walls, trim and our existing dressers.
