The basic blue house is a new construction home in the suburbs of Richmond, VA.  It has 3,478 square feet and has an unfinished 3rd floor.  The construction might be basic, but we chose $40,000 of upgrades to turn this basic floor plan into the home that would provide the backdrop for our design.

In the fall of 2016, we installed shiplap and built-ins to the family room.  We also upgraded a lot of the lighting in our home including the kitchen pendants.

In the spring of 2017, we tiled the kitchen floor to ceiling with white subway tile.  We also designed a nursery for our daughter born in July 2017 and upgraded our son to a toddler room.

In 2018, we added interior trim to our front door and applied a faux wainscoting to the entryway.  We added trim to our kitchen island and painted it green.  We removed our pantry door trim and replaced it with sliding door hardware and added new trim and new taller baseboards in the mudroom.  We built our pantry doors.  We built a bench for a drop zone.  We also repainted the mudroom white and added a new light fixture (one more boob light bites the dust).  We then began a massive overhaul of our dining room.  We added a beautiful chandelier and a new dining set.  We added new base molding, crown, chair rail, picture rail and applied picture frame molding from floor to ceiling. In the entryway we added removable wallpaper. We also took care of fixing a few items leftover from our kitchen tiling checklist like repairing and painting the refrigerator cabinet.

In 2019 we found and refinished a vintage door for our kitchen.  We’ve been busy since completing our master bedroom refresh.
