The basic blue house is a basic new construction home in the suburbs of Richmond, VA. It has 3,478 square feet and has an unfinished 3rd floor. The construction might be basic, but we chose $40,000 of upgrades to turn this basic floor plan into the home that would provide the backdrop for our design.
In 2018, we added interior trim to our front door and applied a faux wainscoting to the entryway. We added trim to our kitchen island and painted it green. We removed our pantry door trim and replaced it with sliding door hardware and added new trim and new taller baseboards in the mudroom. We built our pantry doors. We built a bench for a drop zone. We also repainted the mudroom white and added a new light fixture (one more boob light bites the dust). We also began a massive overhaul of our dining room. We added a beautiful chandelier and a new dining set. We added new base molding, crown, chair rail, picture rail and applied picture frame molding from floor to ceiling.
Next up on the agenda is finishing the dining room. After that, the entryway will need painting.
Later this year I’d also like to tackle the refrigerator cabinet in our kitchen which will need to be repainted after a granite backsplash was removed last year. Eventually, I would love to replace all of the baseboards downstairs with the taller baseboards we installed in the mudroom and dining room but I will probably table that for another time. Next year sometime I would like to turn my attention upstairs and tackle the master bedroom.
